Joe Story is a very engaging Christain author based in Northampton, UK, writing under the name of Unboring Book Company. He approached us for a complete overhaul of his unboring website (previously built as a WordPress.com blog) to help him distribute his writing further and sell good value printed copies of his short books online.
Working to a short deadline we designed and built a clean new e-commerce website, taking inspiration from the spacing, typefaces and simple clarity of the printed page.
As the main aim of Unboring is to help people access Joe’s published texts, it was crucial to make the books easily accessible online. Therefore we built some unique customisations into the shop and products pages allowing pdfs of the books to be opened up right there within the website, rather than as a separate download.
We continue to host the website and provide a service publishing content and managing an email newsletter for Unboring.
Colours and typography
Is so important for the design of a writer’s website to frame but not distract from the real meat – the words. Simplicity was therefore key here with a design with higher contrast text complemented by simple warm title highlights.
Typeface for headings: Merriweather
Typeface for copy: Open Sans
